Mike and Erin met in 1995 in Louisville, KY poultry judging. Mike was a member of Ohio’s 4-H poultry judging team and Erin was a member of Oklahoma’s 4-H Poultry judging team. They spent a day judging together and a few short hours at an awards banquet where they exchanged addresses and phone #’s. Mike went back to The Ohio State University where he majored in Meat Science and Ag Business and Erin went back to Oklahoma to finish high school. Fast forward 5 years, Erin is moving and comes across a letter written to her from Mike and decides to reach out and see where he is at in life. After a short conversation with his mother Erin finds out Mike is living in SE Kansas working for a Bacon processing plant. She gives him a call and Mike decides to make the hour and forty-five-minute drive to see her on a Sunday afternoon in February of 2000. July 4 th, 2000, Mike proposes Erin excepts and they get Married Oct 7 th ,2000. In 2002 with a new baby the corporate life was getting tiresome for us and we decide to venture out on our own. We went to talk with Erin’s family butcher about the business of Custom Butchering which lead to the creation of Rainey’s Custom Butchering. Now over the years we have raised 2 amazing daughters Olivia Faye and Emma Danielle. Olivia married Dylan McDaniel January of 2024 during their senior year at Oklahoma State University and gave us our first grandchild in Nov 2025. Emma married Jack Graves in March of 2026 and has our 2 nd grandchild set to join us in April 2027. In 2005 we built a Wild Game Processing Facility operated as Mike’s Deer Barn where we processed 1200 deer and elk a year until 2019 when we decided to close it in pursuit of new ventures. In 2019 we had the opportunity to create Erin’s dream of having a retail store. So we acquired a building in Nowata, Oklahoma and started remodeling and opened Rainey’s Meat Market and Deli in 2020. It has flourished ever since. We sell fresh cuts of Beef, Pork, and Chicken. We have over 30 varieties of Deli Meats and over 30 different Cheeses. We make fresh butcher sandwiches, house made chicken salad, and a large variety of other grocery products.
